NMIX 4110. New Media Production. 3 hours
Oasis Title: NEW MEDIA PROD
Prerequisite or corequisite: NMIX 2020
Students will learn a broad range of new media technologies, emphasizing both interaction design and production methods. Techniques will be learned through various exercises and a final project that incorporates all of the topics covered in class. Students will leave this class with a website portfolio that showcases their online design and production skills in a thematic and cohesive way. Technical topics will include user interface design, HTML, Images on the Web and Color Theory, Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript, Dreamweaver, and Flash.

NMIX 4111. New Media Design. 3 hours
Oasis Title: NEW MEDIA DESIGN
Prerequisite: NMIX 4110
Students will explore topics related to the critique, analysis, and creation of interaction designs for mobile devices. To achieve usable designs that meet the needs of the target audience while conforming to the constraints of the technical platform, projects will follow an iterative process of analysis, design, and testing. User interface design topics will include design fundamentals and theory, information architecture, navigation models, and page layout. After analyzing end user and commercial needs related to an assigned application area, students will create information models that can then be presented through a variety of platforms, including laptops, PDAs, and cellular phones. The majority of class time and evaluation criteria will concern the application of theories and principles to realistic problems, based on a variety of classroom exercises and both individual and team projects.

NMIX 4220/6220. New Media Topics I. 1 hour
Oasis Title: NEW MEDIA TOPICS I
Prerequisite or corequisite: NMIX 2020
Presentations about a technique, topic, or technology of current interest in the form of a single speaker, a panel discussion, or a demonstration. Students will be expected to participate in discussions during and after sessions.

NMIX 4221/6221. New Media Topics II. 1 hour
Oasis Title: NEW MEDIA TOPICS II
Prerequisite: NMIX 4220 or NMIX 6220
Prerequisite or corequisite: NMIX 2020
Presentations about a technique, topic, or technology of current interest in the form of a single speaker, a panel discussion, or a demonstration. Students in this class will be expected to participate in discussions during and after sessions.

NMIX 4200/6200. New Media Technologies. 3 hours

Oasis Title: New Media Tech
Prerequisite: NMIX 4110
Usability: Students will learn to apply analysis and design principles to create user-centered interaction designs achieved through an iterative process of analysis, design, and testing. Topics will include user analysis (e.g., cognitive psychology, human performance, task analysis), user interface design (e.g., design fundamentals, information architecture modeling, page layout principles), and usability testing (e.g., concept testing, formal usability testing, surveys). The majority of class time and evaluation criteria will concern the application of theories and principles to realistic problems, based on a variety of classroom exercises and both individual and team projects.

Rich Media: Hands-on instruction in the area of streaming media production. This class will focus on the digital encoding and delivery techniques that are unique to streaming media. The fundamentals of digital media production (video, audio, web) will be used to introduce students to this growing medium. Encoding issues in all of the major formats (Real, Windows Media, and Quicktime) will be addressed. Students will learn how to think about streaming media programs in terms of interactive storyboards and timelines. The final project will exemplify the "active user" media experience and equip students with the tools necessary to continue producing next-generation media programs.

NMIX 4310. Rich Media Production. 3 hours
Oasis Title: RICH MEDIA PROD
Prerequisite: NMIX 4110

NMIX 4490/6490. New Media Directed Study. 1-3 hours
Oasis Title: NM DIR STUDY
